Fitness enthusiast and reviewer from New York

The Short Version

I go by Mia Carter, based in New York, and over the past several years I've chronicled my visits to fitness clubs throughout United States.

This site came about after growing frustrated with selecting gyms from ads and broad suggestions, only to find the reality didn't match. I wanted clear, candid details about what these venues are truly like. Since such information wasn't available, I chose to build it myself.

How This Started

My fitness journey began at a modest gym near 123 Flex Street in New York. It wasn't flawless, yet it was approachable, affordable, and it helped me stay consistent.

When that place closed, I saw how rapidly the fitness landscape in United States was evolving. New clubs emerged, new ideas took hold, and marketing grew louder than actual member experiences.

I began trying varying gyms and classes, jotting notes after each visit. Eventually those notes became this site, designed to help others make more informed choices.

My Approach to Reviews

Every review here is based on actual visits and time spent inside the facility. I highlight practical details that matter when selecting a membership.

When I review a fitness center, I typically:

  • Allow enough time to grasp routines, peak periods, and usage patterns
  • Visit on various days and times
  • Sample multiple training formats and trainers
  • Regularly use amenities to assess cleanliness and comfort
  • Speak with other members about consistency and gaps
  • Take notes right after each visit

I revise reviews when there are significant changes: renovations, management shifts, price changes, or new facilities. Each article shows its most recent update date so you know how current the information remains.

What I Look For

My priorities may differ from yours, so here is what matters most to me when assessing a gym:

Comfort and Privacy: Is the space genuinely well-designed for members, with clear boundaries and a peaceful ambiance?

Equipment Quality: Are machines well-maintained? Is there sufficient variety? Are repairs prompt?

Crowd Management: Can you train at your preferred times without constant queues?

Clean Facilities: Locker rooms, showers, floors, and equipment surfaces. Cleanliness reflects how seriously management takes the member experience.

Honest Membership Practices: Transparent pricing, clear rules, and no surprises.

Beyond the Gym

Beyond training and writing, I live in New York and work here. This project aims to simplify fitness choices and make them more transparent for those seeking the right setting.
